Automated Control of Uniforms and Linens at HITEC 2011

• Distributing clean uniforms to employees and receiving soiled uniforms for cleaning
• Stocking and removing linens from storerooms
• Sending soiled linens and uniforms to the laundry and receiving cleaned items from the laundry

The demonstrations required no incremental labor and no computer inputs. The mere acts of passing out uniforms to employees, placing clean linens in the storeroom, removing linens from the storeroom, and employees depositing soiled garments in the hamper were all recorded by GIMS™ automatically.

The highlight demonstration represented sending soiled linens and uniforms to the laundry and receiving cleaned items from the laundry by simply pushing a linen cart or uniform rack past the GIMS™ RFID station. GIMS™ not only recorded all the individual items, it knew if the items were going to or coming from the laundry based on the direction of movement.

The linen cart contained 500 linen items. GIMS™ recorded exactly which pieces were being processed and identified how many were towels, sheets, and pillow cases. The uniform rack had 50 uniform pieces on hangers. GIMS™ recorded exactly which pieces were being processed and identified how many of each different type and style of uniforms were on the uniform rack. When items were removed from the linen cart or uniform rack, GIMS™ knew exactly which items were not returned from the laundry.
